Too many items plugged into one outlet is not a good idea.

The reading lamp by our couch is always unplugged. That’s because one of our teenagers finds it necessary to unplug the lamp so he can plug in his cell phone charger and computer while he does his homework during his favorite TV program.

Certainly we’ve had the discussion about how inefficient multi-tasking is. But that’s not our discussion today. Today we want to help you be aware of those electrical outlets conveniently situated in every room of your house.

Most days you never even consider the outlet unless you have teenagers that need chargers, too.

You do however think deeply about the outlet if one day you are plugging a cord into an outlet and it sparks.

There are many reasons why this could happen and none of those reasons are good.

If your outlet sparks you need to contact Amp Electric right away.

• An exposed wire could cause the spark. This means that insulation around the wiring has deteriorated or for some reason is missing.
• Another reason for a spark could be that the terminal wiring is loose or the internal contact is poor. Contact a certified, professional electrician now.
• If your receptacle is overloaded with multiple adapters or converters plugged into the same outlet, this can cause sparking. If you want the light, the computer and the cell phone plugged in, it’s best to use a surge protector.
